You can hit over 25 consecutive balls OB, then hit 7 consecutive balls OB in the final, and still win a tour event....on a soft grid...WOW! Art likes to brag about Troy Mullins great tour like swing...goes 0 for 8....snap hooks all 8 balls. I love long drive...always have. I respect all the competitors...but it has become painful too watch....I remember the 2006 senior final in Mesquite...Bobby Wilson and Gerry James bantering back and forth while on the tee..filling up the grid at 365-370yds....great TV...even the semis between Joe Hadjuck/Bobby Wilson, Gerry James/Kevin Wolfe was full of talking, and filling up the grid. I like the new format...with 6 balls instead of 8, otherwise I'm not impressed with GC's new venue.

It’s a crying shame some of the really talented long drivers who can fill up a grid were not there in Atlantic City yesterday.

We’ve argued long and hard on here to keep some element of accuracy and consistency within the sport, however, the pendulum has swung totally in the other direction.

The result …… a new long drive record of 51 OB balls in a row  ::)

Difficult conditions or not that's still a 45 yard wide soft grid and you only need 1 from 8.

Yes Costello's ball looked to land at least a yard beyond the red line so that made the tie call a surprise for viewers.

Never made it down there, played instead, glad I did with all those OB balls. Pretty cool & windy early in the day, probably in the mid 60's in AC, wind off the ocean which is only 64 degrees.

Poor choice of venue for a televised event to begin with, but agree... too many OB to be taken seriously by the viewers.

Facebook turned into a battle field of people talking trash and friends and family of competitors defending how difficult conditions were.

That red line though... great addition but no where near the quality of the first down line for the NFL. At one point it was so crooked there was a two yard difference from one end to the other. C'mon GC...

When they measured Costello's ball the guy by the ball kept his thumb and forefinger on the tape measure mark and then they went to Steenberg's ball.

You could clearly see that Steenberg's ball was shorter.

The guy on the 340 line realized he had announced 10' 5" when he should have announced 12' 5", they went back to double check this.

No need to start a new thread for Atlantic City, this title sums it up.

51 OBs in a row and people still wonder why long drive is not taking off as a spectator sport  ::)
