No open this year Lisa.  It will take all day for these old guy's.  You know how slow old people can be.  I may have to walk some of them to the tee box.

Steve Nickerson is also in the tournament.  Said something about kicking Charlie Thomas ass.  What do you think Charlie, strong words coming from a heart patient.

Will you be anywhere near Decatur on the 18th?  If so come on down and hit some.

A nice group of entries for the SS tournament so far.  Two world champions Steve Griffith 2005, Doug Miller 2006 from the SS division and don’t forget Kim Shearburn 4th place finish in 2008.  How about George Moisoff 5th place finish at Worlds in 2005 Senior division and Charlie Thomas 7th place finish I believe in 2004 Senior division.  David Brinker won a international event in 2005 and is always in the hunt (can’t seem to beat that guy any more).  These guys will hit in the Senior division also, then we have CT Taylor 3 times Military finalist, Glen Stroberg with that  long  driver he uses, ( his wife said it's not that long).  Next is Joe Amlong, he and Charlie Thomas  just miss winning the May tournament by one foot.  Joe will be going back to the Worlds this year.  Last is Steve “Cardiac” Nickerson.  If I can remember correctly, and at my age I’m usually wrong, but I believe Steve finish in the top 25 for the Open division back in 2005.  Lately Steve has been spending more time in the O R room then on the tee box.  I can’t blame him, some of the nurses are very nice.  He’s taken his nick name “Cardiac” to the outer limits with the triple bypass surgery back in May.  Steve is doing very well and will be hitting in Pa this weekend.  Good luck Steve.  Steve will also be my pick to win the Senior division on the 18th unless Chris McCurdy shows up with Bobby Wilson.

By the way we have a new member on the e-mail list.  Say hello to Terry McLachian from Dallas a SS this year.  Terry will be at the Worlds this year and will be here on the 18th to kick some butts (words from my mouth not Terry).

Entries so far:

CT Taylor
Glen Stroberg
Steve Nickerson
Joe Amlong
Chris McCurdy
Charlie Thomas
David Brinker
Doug Miller
Steve Griffith
Sam Turner
George Moisoff
Kim Shearburn
Terry McLachlan

Guy’s,

I met with Rick Anderson head of Decatur and Forsyth Golf and Cathy Anderson Director of Sports Marketing and Services for Decatur and Forsyth..  They would like to market the Decatur Heartland Classic Long Drive Tournament twice a year.   Cheaper hotel prices, and a gift bag to start out.  Pepsi will be a sponsor, Decatur hotels and Decatur Golf will also do something.  I know this is small to start out, but Cathy told me that if I can get you guys to come there will be money add in future events.  How much I do not know, it all depends on if you will support this event.   In May on Memorial Day weekend I will do a two day tournament, Open on Saturday and the Seniors, SS on Sunday.

It may take two to five years, but all I here from Long Drivers is what can we do to make the sport bigger.  Here is your chance to join the team and get something going here in the Heartland.   I’m looking to get forty entries, 20 for Open and 20 for Senior and SS to start out.  As the years go by I will be looking for 40 or more Open entries.  This means I will need to know how many of y’all will come so all future tournament will  require a commitment and preregistration and there will be a dead line for entries.

I do not make money off any of this.  I do it because I enjoy long drive.  Help me to help the sport of Long Drive.

To All "Old Guy" Long Drivers going to Mesquite: I've been to almost every one of Sam's tournaments and he does a GREAT job for a lot of fun, competition, and it's a fantastic "warm up" for Mesquite. As for future tournaments and possible sponors--SAM, you can count me in for each tournament you hold  Smiley It would be great to have a BIG tournament in the midwest if we can get enough long drivers to show up :-) Good luck, Sam

Hey guess what? I'm a Super Senior now...yeah! Not that it will matter as I couldn't win even if they had a division for blind quadriplegics strung out on Quaalude in a methadone clinic Sad

So guess I will hit in Seniors and Supers then as I love donating money. Actually I am finally hitting the ball not so embarrassingly so maybe, just maybe...

I will be taking today and Friday off to get everything ready.  It's not to late to sign up.  Just get here before your event starts.  Seniors begin at 9am Saturday.

Good luck to everyone.
