Speak softly and carry a big stick

« on: June 22, 2010, 11:14:53 AM »

This was my first time in Winnipeg and let me say that it may be a smaller city but it is full of people with big hearts.  Rob Engley (Professor Golf Products) was one of the most genuinely honest and helping people I have ever met.  He worked his butt off to put this event up all on his own, with sponsors dropping out, mother nature not helping at all with a weeks worth of rain just before the event and the fact that he hasn't ran an event before.  Rob pulled it off though and let me tell you it was worth the trip.  I met a bunch of promising young hitters, most unfortunately could only compete with OEM standard length drivers but they sure put a good move on the ball.  With a little more training and practice I'm sure these guys will be gunning for a top spot in any event they go to next.  The guys in the final eight could all bring it and of course Matt Gunning, who had the longest balls of both days, ended up the champion.  What a great first experience in Winnipeg for me and I can tell you with Rob's generosity and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a solid event going I can say that I am in for next year.  Who knows maybe this is just the kick start we need to get long drive in Canada back on the map and I am certain that Rob is the right choice to get it started in Manitoba.

The drive was killer, but it was to the airport at 4 a.m.  I flew out there, a breezy 1h 45min flight no prob but i'm 1h 20min from airport in morning and saw 3 different sets of deer through my sleepy eyes.  I would have told you about it Robinson but I wanted to cash a check instead of donating to you.  I'll call you in a couple of days i'm supposed to head to cowtown this wknd but as you have found out with me I don't always make it.

later dude,

X2 for everything Glen said. Rob went above and beyond all weekend while feeling a little under the weather. Thanks to all the grid workers, the ladies at the table, and sponsers. It was great to be able to go and hit somewhere relativly close to home. Rob, if you need any help promoting or organizing any future events or just in general with the organization let me know and i'll be glad to help.  Good seeing everyone again and see you all again in Sylvan in a couple weeks.       Matt Gunning
