A Canadian team won The World Final of The International Pairs October 2009 in Scotland.
The final was played in summer conditions .
The Canadian team won using their winter handicap which is higher than their summer hcp.
I was not aware that you can have different handicaps.
In Holland we have winter greens and have to wait for summer greens before we can play qualifying score cards.
Can anyone explain ? Thanks

Ive been in CANADA all my life and have never heard that term before of having  "WINTER HANDICAP " ----only winter hadicap  we get in SUDBURY is about 4 & 1/2 feet of snow covering our courses!!!   Golf clubs are in storage from end of OCT till end of MAR at very best in most of ONTARIO anyhow!

but a designated winter handicap----nothing ive ever encountered or even HEARD OF!

Maybe it's a clever way of being what we in Holland call a "duikboot" (translated: submarine.A player who has a higher off. hcp. than what he plays ).
Gullible organisers fall for the trick, too much trouble checking it out.
