How about us organising a Ryder Cup longdrive match between Europe and USA (of course!), to be held on one of the practice days at the 36th Ryder Cup which will be played at the K Club near Dublin, Ireland, in September 2006. The Irish have always had a strong commitment towards longdrive and one of our members has very close ties with the owner of the K club, two facts that could certainly help to make this a reality.

The format of the competition could follow the Ryder Cup exactly i.e. 4 fourballs, 4 foursomes, 4 fourballs, 4 foursomes, and then 12 singles matches. For the fourballs we have 2 Europeans taking on 2 Americans, each player counts his best from six drives and the overall best wins the match. For the foursomes we add up the best drive from each of the 4 players and the highest team total wins the match. Singles is just a straight six ball shoot-out between the 12 pairings. In keeping with the Ryder Cup, and to add a bit of drama and suspense, we also appoint two captains to pick all the pairings.

With the Ryder Cup having more spectator interest than any other golfing event, and with only a maximum of 24 golfers on display, I would have thought that any additional entertainment that could be provided on the practice days would be most welcome. The timing of the event in 2006 is also good, it gives us plenty of time to put this together and time for the European LD Tour to grow and become a lot stronger in depth. That said we would still go into the competition as massive underdogs which is also a good thing. Why? Because European fans love to support an underdog and they certainly don?t get that anymore in the main event!!

a LD ryder cup match - AWSOME man!

as a golf fan and LDer I couldn't think of nothing better - a browse on the range, a look at Tiger on the course, grab a beer and see some long drive action.......perfect!

if this event is given the go-ahead, it'd be superb!!!!!

Yo Phil, we'd be the underdogs, but remember what Pricey did to Mickleson.......!!!!

BRING IT ON MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phil!
Tumba here   You wanna do this? How to get started :?:  :?:
  We start by setting up a group of "founders" meaning you, me and someone else???
Then we start to brainstorm HERE on the site! we make sheets, etc.
Finally we present this to a major company who then endorses it!
All proceedings, after administrating costs=beer etc., go to a "fall European LD final", could be something, or :?:

Ok, here we start :!:

I, Johan, volounteer as a part of the group of organizers.
over to you  Phil, I gotta go instantly!

Luv,
Jowsa Johan

Great idea Johan and thanks for volunteering yourself.

The 3rd founder member would have to be Will, I met the owner of the K club at Will & Rhonda?s wedding (fantastic do!) this time last year, and they certainly know all the right people in Ireland to help put this together.

How about it Will, if you can work with us on this one and make the Ryder Cup of long driving a reality, I?ll carve your face onto that mountain in Austria myself!!

I nominate George "Animal" Slupski for Team USA Captain.

George is already the Team USA captain for the Iceman International Team Championships.

Take a bow George,
Mike.
