Are you kidding me? have fun all you small business owners?? Consider my families construction business gone! If anybody is for this bill PLEASE explain to me how this is going to help in any way. I just dont see it.

This is not a bash but an actual question on trying to see the good in this. From what i can see spending 1 trillion. and then another 1/2 trillion on taking student loans is literally insane. I cant comprehend the good in this.

Remember folks...this "overhaul" won't take effect until 2014 IF it gets by the senate without filibuster.  By then, the new president will repeal that bill.

Being from Canada.........what is so wrong about Universal Healthcare?  I know it's not great, but not having to EVER worry about being able to afford any healthcare bills is kind of nice.

Why is everyone so up in arms about this?

Is is just that you guys will be taxed to death (like us in Canada) to be able to afford this?  I really don't get why everyone doesn't want healthcare.   Huh?

Thanks,
Shawn Robinson

PS, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I just really want to understand why all of you are so pissed.

Shawn, in a nutshell, this is how healthcare works now:

If you make under a certain amount of money, you qualify for Government healthcare...the best insurance out there.

If you have no insurance, nor can afford any, then we as taxpayers already pay for it.

Businesses which gross less than $500k are not required to offer insurance to employees.

UNDER THE OBAMACARE PLAN:

No matter what you make, you can get healthcare, at a substantial cost to subsidizers (taxpayers)

Those who have no insurance are given "affordable" insurance, which taxpayers pay for (again)

All businesses are REQUIRED to have insurance for all employees, not just full-time...This is a back-breaker for most businesses.

All big companies will push out the small companies when this happens.  Insurance rates will skyrocket due to the fact that folks with pre-existing conditions can not be denied.  Rates go up based on the number of claims within a set area.  We, the people, sent a message to Washington saying we did not want this particular overhaul.  The senators shoved it through.  This is not a Democracy, this is a prime example of Socialism.  Luckily, we have mid-term elections coming up.  Primaries on May 4...as Biden said..."This is a big fuquing deal!"...Yes, sir, it sure is.  When we ALL vote incumbents out!  Government is too big, and has too much power.  Time to put them in their place!

Reality is that a country needs to be strong for it's people to live good lives.  The strength comes from the people.  Dependence is weakness.  And whatever kind of behavior you reward you get more of.  So by rewarding dependence on government you get more weak people and a weaker country.  And when the country weakens (like our economy right now) everyone suffers...especially the weak and those looking to advance economically.

Think about it from a different perspective...when people get sick they expect the best care in the world - MRI's, CAT scans, latest surgical techniques and medicines.  And these people that can't 'afford' healthcare, what do they offer the economy in return for the education and expertise of others?  The ability to stock shelves at a grocery store or Walmart?  Working a cash register at a convenience store?  How does essentially trading no skill work for the work of the best and the brightest make sense?  How is that sustainable?

We're at a point right now where if you have $100K you're paying at least half of that in taxes.  (I'm an accountant, and I can back that up.)  And we have Joe Biden and Obama running around saying that "some people have to start getting some skin in the game...time to be patriotic and pay some taxes."  Any increase in taxes means the government is taking the MAJORITY of a taxpayer's income...not "some" taxes."  They've basically decided to target people that make over $200K to pay for their initiatives.  Here's the problem: the average talented and educated person in a field of study in demand can make $100K with little 'help'...maybe their wife does their bookkeeping, kids help out, maybe a minimum wage employee or two.  No real jobs created for the economy.  To get beyond that, he's got to grow his business...and to do that, he's got to put up his life savings (or a mortgage on his house,) deal with the headaches having employees can bring, deal with the headaches that the government already imposes with regard to having employees, and do this all knowing things may not work out and he may end up losing his life savings or having his future earnings attached.  And if he comes through all of that he's got Obama waiting for him at the other end with a big ass baseball bat with the word "TAX" written on it.  Is it worth it?  And if they make it tougher on businesses (higher taxes and forcing them to cover employees health benefits while trying to increase the minimum wage to a 'living wage,') doesn't that make it less worth it?  More and more folks are gonna come to the conclusion that it isn't worth it, that their time is better spent doing other things...and the problem is that if the guy doesn't reach for that next level of profit, no real, skilled jobs would be created.  And without him creating job opportunities, who's the kid fresh out of school gonna work for?  The skilled worker that doesn't have the inclination to go into business for himself?

So that's three reasons for starters.

I am just waiting on him to start paying my mortgage and putting gas in my tank as he promised. He is going to have to, I won't be able to afford it with the new taxes.
