Sorry to hear your event didn't do well Neil. It's really a shame that you can't take someone's word anymore. You definitely can't call the ones who cower out like that men. A man keeps his word.
T: Hate also the Christmas Clash didn't work out well. I wanted to come, but with a baby on the way, it's probably smarter for me to save up as much dough as I can.

If pre-charging people would weed out the no-showers then that would great. If you had 20 people pay and only 15 show up that means more money for the people that showed up.
I hope that you still will think about an outdoor event in the early part of the summer. See if you could get a Super Q, on Saturday, and then the event on Sunday. You could have guys stay the weekend, qualify for a district or 2 and then hit in an event and then go home with only one night at a hotel. I'm a poor college student and that is best setup that you could ask for. I wouldn't even worry about a money sponsor until you get guys that are 110% committed to the event and guys that sponsors would like.

That was the plan for super q and event in a weekend- I can say tho it will be payout for entry fees only tho- I cannot approach sponsors and promise things that aren't there- what am I gonna tell them-"well 30 said they were gonna be here" - no thanxs definetly will be a prepay tho - starting to agree on the difference between 'sayers and players' tho trying to do these for guys- I have no benefit-im 50 and just do it for open guys really- this kinda rolls over into all those approaching companies for free gear also- prove yourself then see what comes to you

It will be a few years before any company will start giving out freebies again.

I think the lack of entrys (at least at my indoor event) are more of a sign of the poor economy than anything else. Hopefully in a year or two things are better for these small events.
How did the sims work, and funny balls, or trouble picking them up?

Understand the economy -just simple answers help people plan these things - people complain of lack of them- then throw in suggestions on how to do them etc then -no shows- we found that settings on 5 were most accurate on the AG sims- ill continue trying to get guys together as the ones that really want this will show- L D in any way possible- was fun and good practice anyways!

Ryan-a few didn't pick up-usually they were in odd places they hit on the screen and also some of the hardest hit ones- we had the portable Zelocity's set up along witb ss radars to help- we are narrowing it down as far as readings go-for your sims-settings may be differrent but there is some good info that helps when you learn to interpret it

Neil, Jason, Josh, and Mike, thanks for showing up and hitting. I apologize for being aggravated by the miss hit readings. 12 balls hit, 4 miss reads, and 8 crappy reads recorded makes me a poor sport. Sorry. I did get some practice in while you guys were competing however.
Anyone going to the DDC? Need to share a car and room.

Just a couple comments on balls not being picked up on an About Golf Sim.
I have found that if you are trying to hit low guys usaully play the ball back in there stance. As well they lead with there front side and hood the face a little. This can cause there front shoulder to block out one of the side cameras from seeing the ball at impact. The main cause for a ball not being picked up
Also a low launch ball, less than 10 deg, will have issues too.
Myself, I have hit lots of 200 mph balls on About sims (maybe a 100 or so) and I don't think one has been missed. But I hit hit high (12 deg or more) and play the ball in line with my front foot.
I think these two issues are why some guys have issues and others don't.
Also at 190+ mph the sim doesn't pick up spin, it just gueses spin based on mph and launch angle. Thats why I have found 390yds to be about the max on these sims, as I have seen this number from well hit balls at 198 mph all the way up to 205mph. The sim gives you more spin as your mph goes up. So a 199 mph ball will be very close to to a 210 ball if launch angle is close. Anything with less than 8 deg launch will not give you an accurate number.
This is all with the sim setup for realworld conditions.

Its 1 thing for entries to be down, its another to have 15 or so people tell you they will be there and then NOT show up. Which is what it sounds like happened in this scenario. I witnessed it first hand as well at the CC, and I'm sure every other person has similar stories. According to the thread for the Shanks shootout, as of Dec 20th or something, there were 83 people VERBALLY commited. As of Jan 26th only 1 check had arrived in the mail, and now the fee will go up due to a increased payment structure based on when you pay. Lets see how many show up for shanks based on that 83 number. I know its a great event, but will they even get half of the 83 that have commited? I hope Robbie gets double that amount, but......
Neil, I think your outdoor facility would be a great place for an event and hopefully it will come together, Hope all is well.
