Would love to compete but cant justify planning a week + away from work and family for a yet undetermined # of spots and practice in the snow and rain for 2-3 weeks beforehand

Ditto that Carson

All of the unknowns are too vague to spend to find out later--sad  that's how it played out!

Just hope its back on track again in 2010 for us all up north .

Well, I can probably tell you with almost 100% certaity that there will be 1 spot.  Think about it, if they have less than 10 people sign up for it, and they give one spot, they fulfill their promise.  1 spot for 10 people is better than any district, right?  Even if I am wrong, there MIGHT be 2 spots at most.

I think you are right Shawn. They will give one spot for the 9 guys that will show up and say how much better odds that is than US districts
I somehow think guys like me, sebastian lebel and others that have ran qualifiers over the years would have collectively sent in a LOT more money in 2009 in entries (with zero employment expense to the LDA) VS what they will get from this event, that they will have to pay their own staff to run etc.

Carson is right about the fees. Dave Bristow and I ran 2 locals last year and we sent around $3,000.00 to the LDC. But, it does appear from statements made by Art, that they are not so much interested in promoting locals. They are only concerned about the RWLD event (which apparently is fully sponsored).
Has anybody heard what the entry fee is for the Canada Day qualifier? I was thinking that it would be the same as the district finals, $75.00 for LDA members, $150.00 if not a member. Based on the number of guys that have signed up so far, the LDA is not going to make a whole lot on the Canada Day qualifier (but then again, they're not interested in making money from the qualifiers).
It'll be interesting to see how many others sign up over the weekend. If more don't sign up for the Seniors or Super Seniors, I'd be surprised if they even have a qualifier for them. It could be a shoot out for the open guys, taking only 1.
Are any of the guys who hit in the RCDQ in Victoriaville going to go to the Canada Day qualifier?

"2009 RE/MAX WLDC QUALIFIER FOR CANADIANS - HERE
« on: July 07, 2009, 11:12:36 AM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DETAILS ANNOUNCED FOR SPECIAL 2009 RE/MAX WLDC QUALIFIER FOR CANADIANS
EVENT SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23 IN MESQUITE, NEVADA

ROANOKE, TEXAS (July 7, 2009) – Long Drivers of America (LDA) today announced details for its special 2009 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship qualifying event for Canadians.

Competition employing a modified double-elimination format will take place on Friday, Oct. 23 at Mesquite Regional Sports and Events Complex in Mesquite, Nevada in three separate divisions: open, senior (45+) and super senior (53+).

The competition is limited to residents of Canada and Canadian citizens who currently reside outside their home country.

Competitors must produce appropriate documentation (passports, birth certificates, etc.) on the day of the competition.

Top finishers at the special Canadian qualifier will earn spots in the 2009 RE/MAX world finals, which begin in Mesquite on Sunday, October 25.

The ratio of players who advance into the main tournament will be as good as or better than at RE/MAX regional finals in the United States, LDA officials noted. “We won’t have a general idea about how many players will advance into the main draw until we see how many Canadians register for the special qualifier,” said Michael Ambriz, LDA’s executive vice president. “After that, we’ll still have to see how many actually tee it up on October 23.”

Registration for the special Canadian qualifying tournament opens on Monday, August 10 and closes on Monday, August 24. Players can register by calling (682) 549-2105.

Entry fees for the special Canadian qualifier are $75 for LDA members and $150 for nonmembers, payable at the time of registration.

Canadians who compete unsuccessfully in the special qualifier have another avenue into the finals field: the 2009 RE/MAX WLDC last-chance qualifying event on Saturday, October 24 in Mesquite.

Complete information on how to register for the 2009 RE/MAX last-chance qualifying event will be released later this summer, LDA officials indicated.

Does anyone have any results from Canada Day like how many competitors they had, how many qualified and who? Also, did any Canadians place at the last chance on the 24th?

Three of 14 advanced to RWLDC--two from qualifier and third from the SHOOTOUT round.

Jeff Sutherland   Halifax-area
Glen Hutchison   Calgary-area

& from the shootout -------Brandon Cristo       Kirkland lake area (northern ontario)

On the Last chance day----leftie Martin Trudel (Quebec/Flordia area's)----was very very close and just missed one of those spots at days end!

as far as i know thats all for the Canadians who went down to try and get thru in the last few days events!
