Ladies and gentlemen.

Ever complain about not making any money at an event? It costs too much to compete? Well if you compete at this event, you will at least break even for EVERY expense paid by you, by participating in this event. Let me explain. The great United States government of ours, give us what they call charitable contribution deductions, which include ALL expenses to do the charitable contribution, i.e. travel, food, monetary, etc...minus any money reimbursed, which in this case would be money won. Hell even if you had drivers built just for the tournament, even they can be used as a deduction..So participating in this event, even though money comes out of your pocket now, you will get it back at tax time. You could even go around asking people for small donations for this, so that you can cover your expenses, to get in, and if you get enough money, it will cost you NOTHING out of pocket, and the people who donated to this event will get a tax deduction. All you need to do is keep all the receipts. Thats it!

This is all legal and legit and you will not and can not get audited for this deduction. (I've been doing taxes for 21 years now) The only thing that Sam has to do is contact the USGA, fill out the proper forms to make this a legit charity event, and were as good as gold.

This may and will most likely be the only tournament that you will not have to worry about money spent competing in a longdrive tournament. Any questions feel free to ask.

Sorry guys but I could not get a tax exempt number for Ben.  IRS will not allow an exempt # for one person.  It has to be a charity.

In order to get a tax id# for this event, we need to make it a charity. I was thinking of a name "Longdrivers against Cancer" what do you think about that? We could also have many other events, that will benefit someone who has been stricken with cancer.

Steve, we never got audited before, what makes you think we will now? I told you I could get the "hooker" expense, I mean GEEK golf "marketing reps" covered for you, and I did...IRS hasn't come knocking yet have they???

Sam,
I will likely be at the event, and I will compete in whatever division exists (open only, or senior if we have enough). I just need to confirm something this weekend, and then I will let you know for certain.

Are you going to have an auction to raise money at the event as well?  If not, I think that this may be another way to raise money for Ben.  I know different people have tried on here, but it might be more successful at the event itself.  I will go through my things and see if there is any equipment I can auction off.  Pretty sure I can come up with a few things.  Maybe some companies could throw in a club or two to auction off as well.  Not sure if any of this would be possible, but just thinking out loud.  I also know that some companies have already helped out...I know Steve at Geek, Neil with PGW and Robert Kent with HOF have already helped out and of course Pat Dempsey with Horsepower Golf.  I'm sure there are others, just can't remember right now and I apologize if I left you out.  What does everyone think of this idea?

An auction would be great.  I have not had any offers on donation of equipment from anyone just yet.  I'm waiting until September 3rd before asking anyone for equipment.  Make Tate of SMT has offered to help, but before I talk with him I want to see how many entries we can get.

Our donations for Ben is over $3400, so this tournament will go.  Then everyone will get discounts up to 50% off evey time they hit 6 balls at my locals next year, all year.  I will do at least two locals for region 4, 6 and PA. You can't lose, even if you don't place in the tournament, you can get your money back.

This will be my last update until after Dallas.  We now have 18 total entries, and one donation.  There is not a limit on entries so come on over to Decatur the 19th.  Good luck in Dallas.

Sam,

I can not make the event due to previous obligation.  However, I am shipping some SwingitLD.com shirts down to you tomorrow.  Do as you wish with them.  Give them as gifts, raffle, however you see fit to help your event.  Hope the event goes great.
