Word from Germany...

1st - Stacey
2nd - Persson
3rd - Fredrickson
4th - Konyk
5th - Saren/Lindblom?

Apparently weather was crap in the morning and but improved in the afternoon. Stacey hit 320 m and 310 m was about average.

Nice one Adam!

How come? Was the grid tight?

Seen the photos on FB and it looked quite a good setup. Did Tony win the seniors?

The germans put on a good event and tried to accommodate us as best they could and despite awful weather in the morning I think everybody had a good time.

The qualifier had really, really bad weather. Holland last year was nothing compared to what the first hitters had to face. 8.00 there was no wind, Stef stepped onto the teebox 8.05 and in 30 seconds it went to the worst kind of rain and really strong headwind. He hit 235m into that and later in the day he had only a fairly strong headwind and hit 315m, one of the longest of the day. That´s how bad it was.

A couple of guys was unfortunate and had to qualify early and it turned out that hitting late was a big advantage. Longest results in the morning was Konyk 285m, A german pro 284m ( he hit before Stef with no wind Tongue) Adam 281m and a bunch of us around 260-265m.

I don´t remember the exact way but to the final 6 it was:
Daniel Konyk, Andreas Persson, Niklas Fredriksson, Adam Stacey, Mikael Lindblom and Morgan Sären

Konyk ob, Persson 319m, Adam 304m I think, Fredriksson ob, Mikael ob and Morgan ob
So me and Adam was in the final competing for the win and the other 4 had a shoot-out for 2 spots in the Europeans and a match for 3:rd and 4th. Everybody hits 3 balls. Konyk killed his first around 314m I think, Niklas 312m, Mikael ob and Morgan 288m. Morgan should be getting a spot because Dan already is qualified through Gothenburg.

Konyk hit ob and Niklas hit 313 or 316m to take 3:rd. In the final Adam started with a 320m, I hit 317m, then Adam hit his last 3 but not further and my last ball only reached 314m. Congrats Adam to the win and for a great performance after a 16 hours drive from England  Cheesy

They had a Flightscope set up and hopefully we will get the numbers later. Dan had a 209 mph as the highest and Adam not far behind with a 207 mph. To answer how wide the grid was then it depends on how far you hit. It was 50m narrowing to 40m at the end.

Cheers
Andreas

Thanks for the info Andreas!

Since get to hit sometimes with flightscope i would be very interested in hearing more about the numbers...

Here are my own experiences about the machine:

Pros - very accurate ball speed...and that's about it. Smash factor reading feels right too. Launch pretty ok too.
Cons - distance not really accurate, chs depends on smash factor so don't really trust that number, spin horse//XXX//.

what do you guys think?

In the morning when the grid gave no roll, only carry, the Flightscope was usually only off by a meter or so. In the afternoon when the rain stopped and we got more roll the distances were off by alot.

Great to have that info in a competition and get numbers under pressure. To bad that not many events have that possibility.

See you guys in Knistad

Guys, does it make any sence in having competitions that lasts 11,5 hours? The best thing for the organizers, players,
and most of all audience is that 45 competitors put the show in 3-4 hours. That´s only my opinion, but if we want to make the sport
popular, we dont want organizers of the competitions A. settle the competition in 11,5 hours, B. Drink beer as they are on the tee, C. Smoke while they are on the tee next to the player hitting the ball.

We want people to come over and have a look at the longest drives ever, but we also would like to see that everyone stays behind the teebox for the whole competition.

Of course there was a lot of good things in Germany competition for example flightscope and hospitality for the players, but still the
lack of experience.

Definitely it goes better next year. But i think this is a good example of the thing that the main organizer is not at the competition venue as they should be.  Grin

I wasn't actually there and I heard that the running of the event wasn't quite as we are used. However, I know the organisers didn't actually get a great deal of guidance, if any, so they can be forgiven for not producing something we are used to. The good thing is that the organisers weren't detered and from what I can gather are keen to do an event next albeit run a little better. Good on them.
