Just wondering if anyone could make a few suggestions.  Living in one of the small towns in the south the usual beer is Miller, Bud, Michelob, and the other usual suspects which there is nothing wrong with from time to time.  The only problem is that in recent years one of my wife's relatives has taken me through a plethora of beers and I find myself leaning towards some types more than others and while there is a store with some of these beers nearby I think I may make a drive to a specialty store in a nearby town and load up.  I prefer darker beers like Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout and Nut Brown Ale, Guinness, Fuller's London Porter, Spaten Optimater, Red Stribe, Brooklyn Brewery's Dark Chocolate Stout, Chimay, and Highland Brewery's Oatmeal Stout to name a few.  Thanks for any input.

I think they are all good beers...never had red stripe tho...the others have that hint-of sweet bitterness to them...if you like to enjoy them, then try as many as you like.  Me, when beer is involved, it goes down like nectar from a plant so rare that my throat turns to gold...I like to keep my throat gold in times like those...

LOL...BTW, you posted beer for thought...where's my beer?

couldn't help that

I used to live in Milwaukee.  At the time I lived there I definately took the availability of beer for granted. Some "local" brews I enjoyed were just about anything from Sprecher Brewery, my favorite was their Black Bavarian, Lake Front Brewery Porter, Water Front Brewery Pub Ale, New Glarus Spotted Cow and Fat Squirrel, Lake Louie Warp Speed ale and Tom's Porter. I don't think there is a single town in Wisconsin that doesn't have some sort of small brewery or brew pub.  As you can see there is a lot of beer out there.  I agree with pgaloom, try as many as possible.

30 years ago a man could have tried every beer made in one long day.
Now i think a lifetime would be hard pressed to try them all.
Lots of boutique beers that put more into the label than thirst quenchability.

I'm not much of an ale guy, lager goes down much easier for me.
Old favorites:
#1 = Pilsner Urquell
#2 = Becks dark, or light
#3 = Shiner bock

Red Stripe, Black Butte porter, Sam Adams, Henry Weinharts special reserve, Molson Golden,Negra Modelo all great brews.

Chocolate, or any flavored beer just aint beer. When times are lean there's always Natty lite.

New kid on the block; Sessions lager from Hood River Oregon.

Ahhhh Beer = nectar from the gods. Drink responsibly!!!!!!!!!!!

New Castle...Guiness...Fat Tire is pretty great...you should head on down to Texas and get some ZigenBock or any of the various Shiners.  Killians is always good too.

Thanks everyone for the responses.  I actually tried Duck Rabbit Milk Stout this weekend and it was pretty good.  Bigdaddys, my cousin also suggested Kalik to me, but as you already mentioned it seems hard to find.  I know a guy at a local store that may now where to get it and if so I will give it a try.  Bigiron, I also forgot about Modelo, really like those along with Dos Equis, and Tecate.  Our local zoo has something near October called Brew at the Zoo with somewhere in the neighboorhood of about 200 beers to sample.  I really wanted to go last year, but missed out so maybe this year I can squeeze it in and I will definitely take a DD.  I think I may give New Castle a try as well.   Thanks again.

Duck Rabbit Milk Stout? haha, where do these people come up with the names?

Any one remember "Husongs"? Long gone now, but i believe that Husongs cantina down in Ensenada Baja Norte may still be around.

I have a brew kit, never opened it up. Maybe someone can give insight on how to homebrew?
