Hey all,

As per the thread for Golf Urbain's event, I thought I would start a thread to see who might be interested in a similar event, if held in the location of last years districts, outside of Red Deer AB, or another location in AB.

If you are interested, reply and your name will be added to the list.  If the numbers look sufficient, consideration will be made to make a go of it.

Don't get too worried about cost just yet, we'll get to that if there is enough interest.

I'll start it off:

      Name                  Division         Home Town

1.   Greg Stirrett         OPEN             Calgary AB
2.   Shawn Robinson    OPEN             Calgary AB
3.   Jesse Hnidy          OPEN             Red Deer AB
4.   Glen Hutch           OPEN             Drayton Valley AB
5.   Carson                OPEN              NS
6.   Ryan Hart            OPEN              AB
7.   Geoff Freeborn     OPEN              Airdrie, AB
8.   Mike Roach          OPEN              Wailea, HI
9.   Toddo                 OPEN              Sudbury, ON
10. Sam Watterson     OPEN              Calgary, AB
11. Kevin Blenkhorn     OPEN              Fort Saskachewan, AB
12. Jamie Sadlowski    OPEN              AB
13. Brett Cleverdon    OPEN              ON
14. Justin Kelly          OPEN              AB

* please note that several of the above participants indicated their involvement will be heavily influenced on prior commitments and potential conflict with the competition date.  The current world champ is a definite maybe.

Greg, Shawn, Brett

Thanks Carson....

Thought it would be a good idea to include participant home town, with the intent of having the event located in closest proximity of the majority.

Hopefully the list will continue to grow...

Now this is possible if I can work the wife into a visit with her best buddy down in EDMONTON at the same timeframe---how could she say NO to this event then!!!   Hmmm anything is posible if I make sure the WIFE is HAPPY first before I suggest a weekend AWAY for LD!!!   Il just suggest we go out west this summer to Visit Di and Jamie and then add oh ya there is a LD event out there then too! Lol!

Ill commit or not depending on dates and when we may be able to work it into our sheduales ---thx for the effort and hope it just continues to grow n flourish for us all!

Add Kevin Blenkhorn to the list (Fort Saskachewan, Alberta).

Jamie Sadlwoski said depends on where and when, as he is REALLY bust this summer.

I'll see if i can round up a few more names.

Anyone have any idea where we could host this thing?  I'd love to do it at the same place as districts last year, but not sure the range owner hasn't moved his house onto the tee box yet (yes, I said house).  He was pending approval from the government if he and his wife could build this house..........of course, it would sit right were the current tee box is.  Anywhere between Calgary and Edmonton would be great.  Even a par 5 would be good for the day.  They would just have to turn it into a par 3 for the day.

...looks like a possible venue...  below is my email and the response i got...   ..very promising...

To:Meadowlands Golf Club in Sylvan Lake, AB

The LDA (Long Drivers of America) has unfortunately cut off all ties to us up here in Canada. They are not offering any qualifiers anywhere in Canada! A devastating blow to the country represented by 50% of the top 10 long drivers in the world, not to mention the current world champion. So now it is in our own hands to keep long drive alive in Canada. The guys out east have arranged to put on an independent cash event to help the winners pay for their entry fees/travel/expenses at the Remax World Long Drive Championship in Mesquite, Nevada. All of us out west are trying to accomplish the same task. Our problem is a suitable venue. If you have already been approached, I apologize. But it might be something to consider. There a more than a few capable guys in the area willing to take this on, and with no other events in western Canada this year, there will be some big names coming to Sylvan. The right media approach will attract a very nice crowd. The event in Quebec is scheduled for July 25th and the 48 man field is all ready full. It is 4 months away! It does require a lot of man hours to plan and host an event. Once a venue is secured, myself along with the rest of the long drive community, will handle the details (of course while cooperating with your team). Thank you for taking the time to read my request. A response, even if negative, would be greatly appreciated.

 Again, thank you
 Jesse Hnidy

....response....

Hi Jesse,

We have held the REMAX qualifier here on several occasions, and quite enjoyed it.  We were burned last year by the LDA (they changed venues last minute), and wouldn't return our calls.  So... I have a bit of a bitter taste from last year.  However, I am interested, get back to me when you can with more details.
