drove a green....
«

I drove my first green during play today which was cool... Ive been pin high right or left or passed a green lots of times but Ive never actually hit a drive and stopped on a green until today. It was pretty cool. I missed my 15ft eagle put by quite a bit though haha.
I also hit my personal best drive of about 386 today(im just barely trying to get into LD) which was cool but also very humbling in that Ive got a loooooong way to go and it really puts it into perspective how long you bastards really blast the ball.....

Depending on conditions 386 could and would win many locals across the US. I wouldn't cut yourself short by saying 386 is a short ball. Great job and get your butt to a local and represent brotha!!

I guess I wasnt really calling it a short ball, just shorter than everyone else haha.
Warner springs looks to be the closest place to me and there were a lot of balls 400+ and high 390's and I understand that the place is a little higher elevation and might get some wind, but I cant really imagine my ball going that far. Ive still got a lot of work to do. I spin the ball way too much and Id be useless in any sort of headwind.
on a sidenote I went and talked to a supposed club builder and LD old timer and it was the most bizarre experience Ive ever had. He proceeded to bad mouth a bunch of manufacturers - including two that I had purchased used clubs from - and then went on to bad mouth a couple of the big names that got knocked out a little early in mesquite. He then asked if I wanted to hit a few balls on his moniter and I regretfully abliged. I was super stiff from spending 6 hours in the car for work and my first 8 balls or so left a lot to be desired. He made a few remarks and after about 12-15 balls I started to hit them a little better but the monitor was only reading like 360ish.
He then said "well maybe we should just work on slowing down your swing to make you more consistent on the course so you can continue to impress old guys in your foursome....and forget about the longdriving"
que? I was a little offended but it has definately made me work harder on the range....

Well if you're hitting it 330+ on the course you've got a good chance at competing close to the elite level in LD. Keep in mind these top guys are fitted very very well for their clubs/shafts so don't count yourself out before you even start. Just give it a try!!

Shortdrive, send me a message as to who you talked to...I know some local guys that are just bitter. Most of us know the difference between good and great, and know where we fit into those 2 groups. We will never quit trying, because it only takes 1 freak ball to win, and you never know. I usually swing between 135-138, but, on that rare occasion, can really move it. If I get that day, on the right day, I could bring home some hardware. Do not quit because someone told you to! Quit because you are sane, and don't feel like wasting thousands of dollars on this God forsaken sport! LOL
