hey guys extremeld has recomended geek driver heads which look good to me but what do you guys think of krank el diablo?
i used to have a bang-o-matic with a ust v2 ld shaft but the head cracked, what kind of shaft would you recomend?
i've still got a long way to go but i'm 52 years old been playing golf for 22 months and have a ss of 89-98 mph, i currently use and like the cleveland hi-bore xls 10.5 deg head with aldila dvs reg flex shaft @ 46 inches which i prefare over the vs proto reg shaft...i know i have to work on my ss but as i increase ss and am looking for a 48 inch shaft should i go for a stiff shaft as opposed to xtra stiff..i'm lead to believe that you cant get a reg flex 48 inch shaft they start at stiff?
another question..why do i have to buy a longdrive head why cant i stick a 48 inch shaft on my hi-bore xls head?

hi marco, your strength and fitness will have more impact at this point than shaft length and driver heads etc, look at what happened at whittlebury with off the shelf drivers during qualifying, the guys achieved really good distances, it certainly stuck in my mind, bye the way i,m from hamilton.

problem is strength and fitness take many months / years to develop,

i reckon go ahead and get a longdrive club, if you do plan to compete in the seniors event you may as well use the same length driver everyone else uses, also it makes swinging a regular length driver rather easy when you get used to lda max clubs.

like i said when we met i love the cleveland also, i cannot see any reason why you couldnt put an LD shaft in it, but i could be wrong i am sure someone on this site will clarify this for you.

hi extremeld, i was wondering if there is much difference between a purpose built ld shaft and lengthening one yourself, ive lengthened an x speed and i,m quite happy with it, it has become whippier but i have an easy tempo and its the longest club ive used, are many guys doing that?   also i didnt realise that all the guys are using the max length shaft, i thought it was just some of them

i just want to make sure that the max length in long driving is the same as the royal and ancient rules ie 48 inches for a driver?
jfk where do you go to practise? i often go to the hamilton driving range perhaps we can meet there, have you been longdriving for long? perhaps you also can help me with my technique?
i was at the barclays pro am day at loch lomond today and i managed to video some of the big players especially adam scott whom butch harmon thinks has the best swing, i must have longdriving instincts! i seemed to be only interested in videoing their drives!

hi marco, lde has the 50 inch total club vertical measurement, its actually very close to the 48 shaft measurement others use, ye we could meet up for a hit and a chat, i use various ranges, recently been using world of golf in clydebank, i used to go to the one in blantyre but the bays are a bit small for long clubs, used to freak me out!.   tried the open division a couple of times as a warm up for the senior event, i,m 45, only done one comp as senior, came second down at the uk long drive at whittlebury, 5 of us hit in the final and i hit the longest drive, then we all had to hit again for some reason and i got pipped into second, laugh i nearly did!

Yep, somebody rattled my 52" 975D off the girders at Clydeway... flat swings will hit the sides there

just to be clear relative to many on this site i know cack all about building ld clubs.  But i know that there are people who read this board who do know a lot hopefully they may chip in.

i suggested the geek head as it is durable and i happen to like it.

jfk i had a revelation the other day! it all of a sudden dawned on me that the firing sequence is absolutely crucial!
i did not realise that my slicing was due to firing my arms first on the downswing which inevitably leads to the club face going across the ball...even although it might be a minute amount.... thats what causes the slicing!
i used to believe that it was always big moves that caused the problem but i now realise that even small amounts cause problems.
i became obsessed with shaun the beast fisters recomendation of wrist snapping similar to throwing a stone which lead me to fire the arms instead of the hips first.
when i get to my furthest point on the back swing i try and stretch my arms and back and loose focus on firing the hips, so ive now concluded that although i'm trying to get a full rotation on the back swing i must keep concentrative thought on firing the hips first and rotate the body on the down swing then arms then club and focus on bringing my right elbow down to as close as possible to my body at impact and bearing in mind the helpfull info that extremeld gave me which is have a maximum arc and full rotation and full release post impact..all of these things contribute to a good drive....now just trying to blinkin well do that is something else!!!! Shocked
