I would have to agree with the shorter shaft rule.
The best drive I've hit was 410yards with a 49" (LDA measured) shaft.
I have bumped it up to 51 1/2" thinking I would get a couple of extra yards but haven't hit the 400 yard mark since I've lengthend and became less consistant.
So, for the 2004 season obviously I'll be going back to 50" then to 49" and we'll see what happens.....

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Players Cup!!!
What are we going to do for the Super Bowl???

I say go with the USGA rules. We have to get the repect of the general public. One of the ways is to follow the rules of golf. Too often people assume that long drivers use illegal clubs.

When I started in 2003 I had all my clubs made 52". I did alright with that length but seemed to have more control with 50". So now I'm in the same boat as you. I'll try to go to 49" and see what happens. Salty

Salty let us know how it works out. The 49" LDA is working great for me.
My plan for 2004 is  lighter, faster, farther.

I think if your 6'2" or taller the longer shafts (52")may be better. I'm only 5'11" so 49" should be good. Salty

What does the shorter length do to the ball flight?

I agree with you guys! I tryed to hit a 50 and I was all over the place...I'm hitting a 47' now. I do thing that if you hit something smaller then that It might do you more harm then good....I guess it just depends on your hight

I'm not sure the ball fight will change but you should be alittle more accurate and maybe some more club head speed. Salty

Whatever works for you - but I would like to see a shorter limit on
shaft length.  Many spectators give credit to the 'special' clubs and not
the talent of the competitors.

I agree everyone thinks it's all in the long shafts but in reality there are not many people that can hit a ball 350yds plus. Salty
