The Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines LD event is back !

I just heard from Adam Pilchman that the event that used
to draw most California longdrivers to is on again.
Unfortunately, it's short notice that I tell all this but it's
this Friday at Torrey Pines home of the PGA Buick Invitational
and 2008 U.S. Open.
Adam, in conjucture with the Century Club, are putting on
the longdrive contest held on hole 10 of the north course.
Entry will be $100 and the field is open to anyone. A portion
of that is going to charity (Junior golf of San Diego) and the
rest plus added money and prizes goes is in the pot for the longdrive
shootout.
Also, anyone who pays $5 to hit 3 balls in the grid during the whole
day event will be entered into a drawing at the end of the day for
a spot in the Pro-am of the Buick Invitational to play with the
PGA pros.
Trust me, I've won the spot in the proam before and it WELL WORTH IT
just to go for that. I played 3 groups behind Tiger in '99 and the crowds
were even huge then.
Anyway, just to hit and compete on a course that the pros are getting
ready play on is quite the deal. The grid is normally a pretty tight (fairway) with monster (5") rough framing it. At sea level as it's
right on the coast (you overlook the ocean). Past winners of this event
have some of the longest hitters in the LDA.
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd
be happy to answer them.

Show up (early if you wanna warm up) prior to the 9am
start for the all day event. You can show up later and
still get to hit though.
The last time we had the event was 2003 when Lance Reader (owner of Krank Golf and short time LDA longest hitter at 529(?) yards) was the last winner and if I remember right the year before Doug Ullman won it followed by Vince Howell and myself. Past winners drew the names of prominent longdrivers such as Vince Cuirluini, Mike Hooper, Greg Walker. Some previous winners that no longer compete still show up from time to time and there should a good showing of young guys this year.
It's been a regular event since '96-'03, they took a hiatus for a couple
years but now it's back and it's a great time.
I sent you a pm as well.
