All Long Drivers:
Thank you for your support of the LDGA and long drive competitions. Due to the lack of interest in the Beaumont event we are forced to cancel this contest. Only six competitors signed up. The cost of staging a basic long drive event is over $4,000 (range rental and operational expenses). This level of expenditure could not be justified based on the number of competitors.
The LDGA is going to reevaluate our efforts to build a sustainable long drive tour. We are not giving up but we need to understand why the community has chosen not to participate in the Beaumont event. Over the next few months we will try to determine the true size of the market and what motivates long drivers to participate in events.
After we have concluded our research we plan to organize one more event this summer. We will be seeking input from active competitors to develop a product and format that makes sense for all parties. Please feel free to contact us with your thoughts.

Post Script: We were aware of the Tennessee Shootout at the time we rescheduled Beaumont. Nearly 20 players contacted us and chose the June 10 date as their first choice for a long drive event in Beaumont. For one reason or another most of the players who said June 10 was a good day for them chose not to sign up.

David  I didn't sign up and am just getting into long drive but I could see that June 10th wasn't a good day for this event.  Even though you received feedback to go forward on the 10th a charity event promoted by a major hospital is always going to draw all the majors in the sport.  I would suggest your organization get major sponsors and also get a known promoter to handle the marketing.  Marketing is the key.  These guys have to spend a pretty penny to get here and want to know they are not wasting their time or money.  The rest didn't show cause the word got out that the charity event was on and that was the place to be this weekend. Try a major industry maker such as local Cleveland golf in Huntington Beach. They  might be my first choice to help out.  Then putting on at least one charity event that would get even local politicians involved,  Hoag Hospital in Newport would my second choice.  Let me know if I can help any further.  Danny M
