GC's Genius Albeit Frustrating Last Chance Qualifier
« on: August 10, 2017, 01:35:11 PM »
I think the last time I posted on this site was to complain about the Last Chance Qualifier last year (I missed last season because of injury, wanted to compete in the LC qualifier, but had zero interest in spending $1,300 on a chance to make it into World's to have a chance at doing well).

Anyway, like all good history, it rewrites itself... Another last chance qualifier, and another opportunity for me to complain (although I am slowly understanding why they are doing it).

I competed in two regionals this year and did not do too particularly well in them; however, I did notice that even if I had done much better, it was very cut-throat to get the 2 spots per regional (day). I could not believe that they only take 2 guys per day. Seemed small. It became even more baffling when I see that they have over 20 exemptions for Worlds in the last chance qualifier this year.

After thinking about it for all of 5 seconds it makes sense. It is a lot easier to drop $700 on a last chance qualifier when they take 50% of the guys (or $1,300 if you did not compete in a prior regional). Just like with $1,300 last year, I will not be spending $700 to have a chance at a chance.

I do have to respect the genius of making the regionals overly hard to get through, and then making the LC seem much much easier to get through--and charge 4x for the latter competition. I know I will not compete in the LCQ. I know they are not full, and I hope they get less than 20 guys to sign up and they have to find out how to give those last few spots away (I know this is not going to happen, but I can dream can't I?)

Last Chance Qualifier this year is $1400 (unless you competed in a Regional and I don't think the UK Long Drive Championship counts), they are looking for 64 entrants and registration closes tomorrow, will be interesting to see how many they get.

PHIL----do you type just to see your name associated with LD still------WRONG AGAIN

you do more to damage this sport with continued inconstancies and misleading opinions!!

FACT---as per the WLDC site and webpage

Long drivers that are not officially in the 96-player match play bracket field will have one last shot at qualifying for the Open Division of the 2017 Volvik World Long Drive Championship.

Over 20 spots will be up for grabs at WinStar World Casino & Resort in the “Last Chance” qualifier that will be held on the eve of the World Championship.

Players that have not participated in a World Long Drive Regional Qualifier this year are able to register for $1400.

Long drivers that have competed in a 2017 Regional Championship will have the opportunity to register at the discounted rate of $700.

not sure where your info comes from today----but that's just now off the website for this years event!

Yes creating a bit of urgency always is bad, massive damage done there, how the sport will ever survive this catastrophe

Worst case scenario is 1 person signs up for this site and goes //XXX// i cannot decide that by tomorrow.

Sport is ruined, Phil, what did you do?

The Pga tour has four majors an a tour where they play for millions. We have a tour where we hit for thousands. The Europeans need a major which would give us 2 . The top 20 from each major could hit at a neutral site for the year end event.
Just a thought

Actually partly due to my opinions this sport now has a decent format, something that could never be said about your events :P

Todd, I do not see how what you quoted from the website is any different than what Phil stated. Phil corrected me (I had the $1,300 number wrong). You both said the same thing about the cost and everything else with the exception of: Phil said there are 64 competing (if they fill up), and you said there are over twenty spots that will make it to worlds--but those are not contradictory statements, you were talking about two completely separate things.

I guess this is just getting off topic, and was curious if other agree that this is an outrageous amount of money for the LC Qualifier, or if my opinion is in the minority.

64 hitters 24 in the finals the next day. I would take those odds every day.  An if I had already competed in a region , 700 sounds like a bargain to me. I flew out to mesquite in 06 for a playoff . I think 4 hitters an 2 got in . I got in , made final 8 that year an made money in the Senior division.

Phil changed his post (check his edited time stamp vs when I posted the comments I did---he's purposely gone back and changed it now adding the part about being cheaper if having done a regional already---which was the exact part I'd suggested he missed in his first post).   Spineless aproach to trying to not be shown as incorrect yet again...

Admonishing a paying competitor like Gabriel Landry for your own inability to provide a fair format, now that's spineless :P

FOCUS Phil.
Your clueless on that point of which you continue to be unable to get beyond for some reason  when you were not even there and other then Gabe no one else has ever brought up!  Nice try at deflecting the point.  You've never attended one of the events I've had a hand in running and are assuming to know and understand what's happened--YOU DON'T!!
You changed your post to seem correct and you and I know you were not AGAIN!!

Yes let's get back on point, did anybody manage to enter the LCQ for $700 because if you registered online the only option was to pay $1400, and if so do you know how many entrants they got?

If you had participated in a regional they sent you a link to your registered email address and you could register for $700. How many they got idk.

Are we still talking about an event from a year ago? Gabriel was not winning that event with 100 balls a round. And being able to pick his "wind" conditions. He was not screwed from anything, that is for damn sure.

Yes that event was from the "dark ages" when we use to compare balls hit at different times under different conditions, thankfully today we have a much better format 8)
