For anyone who may be attending the ?Players Tour? event in January, I have put together a little bit of information that you may find helpful. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me, Doug Johnson at 321-544-9859 or hit me up with a private message.

The Duran Golf Club ( www.durangolf.com ) is located at 7032 Stadium Parkway, Viera, Florida. The easiest access to Duran is by taking I-95 exit #191 (Wickham Road) west for approximately one mile and then turning right or north onto Stadium Parkway.  There is a traffic circle about half way to the golf club so don?t get turned around, just go through the circle and keep heading west. If you look on map quest or mapping programs, you may not find what you are looking for. Viera is a new town and some of the roads and addresses are not listed yet.

The Duran Golf Club is top notch facility with a beautiful layout and challenging holes.  The grid is Great! The landing area is well manicured and will allow a roll if you don?t have too much backspin.  This grid has the consistency of a fairway and can accommodate a true 400 yard drive if you can hit one that far at sea level. The grid is set up from south to north. The prevailaing winds will be from the west, hopefully we will have good weather and a light south easterly breeze.

This area is close to a wildlife area and you never know what you may see, including Deer, Turkey, Bobcats, Eagles, Alligators, wild Boar and many other creatures. There are four other good golf courses within a five mile radius and beaches are only 10 to 15 miles away in case you want to hang out in the area for a while.  If you don?t want to stay in Orlando all week, spend some time in nature and see the real Florida.

Airports
The Orlando International Airport is the largest and most accessible for those who are flying. From the airport to Duran, take S.R. 528 (aka the Beach Line) and go east for approximately 30 miles, this is a toll road and it will cost a $1.25. Merge onto I-95 South via exit 42A towards Miami. Go south on I-95 for approximately 14 miles and take exit 191 and go west on Wickham Road.  This trip will only take approximately 45 minutes and it is all good highway.

The Melbourne International Airport is located in downtown Melbourne and is only 15 miles from Duran. It is a good but small airport that has limited flights. Please look at their web site www.mlbair.com for more information. The primary carrier into this airport is Delta and Delta Connection/Comair. It is full service and has several rental car agencies and other amenities.

Lodging

The Host Hotel for this event is the Quality Inn International www.orlandoqualityinn.com located at 7600 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819, rates are $62.00 / Night + Tax. This will put you right near the PGA show.

If you choose to spend some time around the Duran Golf Club area after the event, there are hundreds of hotels to choose from which includes Cape Canaveral, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island, Rockledge, Melbourne and Viera.  All of these cities are located within 10 to 30 minutes from Duran and have quick access to the beaches and major locations. **** A word of caution**** be careful if you choose to stay at a hotel near I-95 exit 200 (SR 520) in Cocoa. This small area can be troublesome if your not careful.

Restaurants / Shopping / Activities
The area surrounding the Duran Golf Club is nice. Some of the restaurants within a two mile radius include: Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans, Denny?s, Perkins, Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy?s, Quiznos, Chili?s, Longhorn Steakhouse, UNO Chicago bar and Grill and many more as you head east on Wickham Road.

There is a new regional mall at this location with everything you can imagine including movie theaters. The Brevard County Zoo is located right behind Wendy?s. You can go to the beaches that are 10 to 15 miles away or even take a nightly gambling cruise out of Port Canaveral on the Sterling Casino (20 miles). The Kennedy  Space Center Visitors Center is only 20 miles to the north and you can walk through a Space Shuttle and stand next to all of the rockets in the garden area. If you have the time, it is well worth spending some time and seeing a part of history. If you are feeling adventurous, you can take an Airboat ride down the St. Johns River from the Lone Cabbage Fish camp, located on SR 520 west of I-95.

There is something for everyone in the area, so bring the family and enjoy your stay! Good Luck, Keep?em long and in the Grid!
Doug

Doug,

Thanks for all the help. We appreciate it. Maybe you can arrange for NASA to do a fly over with one of their space shuttles during the national anthem. That would be a first.

As far as hotel accomidations, like last year The Quality Inn International in Orlando is our Host Hotel. There normal rates for that time of year is $79.00 but you can get that rate down to $62.00 through a Players Tour Group Rate by using the link below. There are only 26 rooms left out of 40 and are selling like hotcakes. Book Now!!!!
