1st off...5,000 people!!!  Same compliment as a war time aircraft carrier...that is trained to know what the Hell to do in an incident like that i.e. a sinking vessel.

Now...try an untrained crew and the passengers not being shown the proper procedure of an incident like this.   Panic!  Both crew and Passengers.

That is exactly why all cruise ships do not sail under the American Flag...except for one!!!  American rules of the Sea are much more strict to get a license.

They had a great Captain though...he was one of the first ones off the vessel and made sure he reach land safely...screw everyone else.

Quite frankly, they were lucky they only lost...I believe 29 known dead and missing.  I find it interesting that most that do take cruises NEVER ask the right questions or any questions concerning their safety and what to do and where to go.  You certainly cannot depend on the crew...they are as clueless as 95% of the passengers.

I was on a Navy vessel for a bit over 3 years....and let me tell you...we were well trained BUT, the Sea can throw some curve balls your way...rogue waves, sudden very rough seas out of nowhere
and just some dumb bad luck...tough enough for trained sea going Navy men...but, those that are there for a good time on a sea going monster hotel?  Just a matter of time before a really major loss of life happens.

Bottomline:  Think about this...they will not fly under the American Flag becuase they only care about the $$$...not the safety of the passengers.
