Greetings Long Drive Community, At the behest of Neil Simpson, we have been asked to publicly release a statement regarding Acropolis Golf. From our perspective, it's too early in the overall process to do this. We are in no hurry, and in fact, had not intended to state anything publically until our original (proposed) company launch that was to commence in either the spring or early summer of 2012. However, in light of everything that's transpired over the past two months, we will honor Neil's request, and "pull back the curtains" a bit. Acropolis Golf started not as a company, but as an idea - in fact, an idea to design and create a driver head for the benefit of just one person. Five original design concepts were initially pursued. "Design #2", now known as the "ares - god of war" driver, became the designated first test head to be developed. This driver head, the ares, is actually an amalgamated design that incorporates elements of no less than six different previously produced heads, blended together into a unique package, to specifically create a line-drive-type ball flight. Originally produced in only one loft (a true 5*), this head was definitely not for "everyone". Neil Simpson caught wind of what we were up to in early part of the 2010 season, and asked if we might be interested in selling this head to the "long drive public". That was never our intent. There is a huge difference between producing R&D samples vs. mass-produced items for general consumption by the public. So we balked - initially. However, Neil can be persuasive (and, if anything, annoyingly persistent). So instead of filing a restraining order, we agreed to produce and release heads to the entire long drive establishment, through Neil, under two conditions - Neil would have to abide by our timelines, and, he would have to assist with any additional testing that we felt necessary to warrant the highest quality, mass produced items. (Note: The ares, in it's "initial state", was actually sent to the USGA for approval in the fall of 2010, but, in the midst of the application process itself, we asked to retract the submittal when we determined the need to change our manufacturing process to produce heads en masse.) Neil's testing with long drive competitors in the field (initially indoors, and then at the LDA's Desert Launch in the spring of 2011) led us to a make a slight adjustment to the original head, and in turn, led to the creation of a second loft (the 7.0*, which, in turn, required a slight design change within the ares concept itself to produce a ball flight similar to it's lower lofted counterpart). The remainder of the 2011 long drive season then served as a data collection period in which we refined our manufacturing process, a refinement process that will be on-going as we decipher the unique needs of manufacturing and assembling products intended for swing speeds in access of 130mph. Along these lines, we would like to take this time to publically thank everyone involved in our initial (and on-going) testing, most especially Neil Simpson himself. Neil's dedication to individual hitter's needs is unparalleled in the sport (he earned his stripes, in this regard, the hard way) and we, with all good-natured kidding aside, are grateful to have him as an integral part of our team at Acropolis Golf. For the record, Acropolis Golf and Phoenix Golf World (PGW, Neil's own company) will remain as separate entities. Neil will control the day-to-day operations of PGW (along with the day-to-day operations of Acropolis's long drive endeavors), and will continue to provide the service hitters have expected and grown accustom to over the last 9 years through PGW. In addition, although Neil's primary focus in long drive will be directed towards Acropolis Golf, he retains the right to sell all other companies' products (heads, shafts, grips, accessories, and the like) through PGW. We at Acropolis Golf understand the uniqueness of this sport, and understand that our products might not suit everyone. And so does Neil. We have come to appreciate and respect his integrity in these matters (and we're sure many of you feel the same way towards him in this regard). We'll spare you the bells-and-whistles advertising approach, and for now, just say, "Hit what works best for you." Aside from putting up with Neil, our immediate goals for 2012 will be to maximize our current product's performance, refine and finalize the design of our higher lofted "consumer" model(s), lay the groundwork for Driver #4 (to be proto-typed in the summer of 2013), and continue our record of zero breakage. (Note: We'll probably jinx ourselves with the following statement, but from our inception in October of 2009 through today, no one has ever broken an Acropolis driver head. Not a single one, including all of our initial prototypes right up through the heads that were used at this year's World Finals. We will strive to continue this streak in all of our upcoming designs.) In closing, we would also like to congratulate Johan Tumba (Senior Division) and CJ Hellstrom (Open Division) from Sweden, who both made it to the broadcast finals of this year's Remax World Long Drive Championships hitting the ares-god of war head. Thank you for putting your trust in our product. This was truly an unexpected, and much appreciated, surprise. To everyone, have a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season. Here's to an even better 2012! All the best, Acropolis Golf
