Hi,

I'm a longdrive newbie Smiley from Finland and could use some advice concerning the physical training you guys do.
Like how often you go to gym and what kind of training you do there

Also some tips about how to decrease spin rate would be welcome

I can currently fly the ball ~300 meters but there is no roll what so ever Undecided so the total distance isn't very impressive (I'm currently hitting Adams 9064LD with 6,5 degrees of loft, the only longdrive driver i have Sad )

Need advice in order to DOOOOOOOOO Wink it and perhaps i'll be competing next summer in Sweden

I started out in 07, did the gym thing and was slow. Now I have 2 kids, no time for gym, a bit faster and had my best result yet at Worlds! Strange how it works...

Seriously, ask guys like Kari and Johan H about gym training as they are PT´s and LDers. Everybody else are doing different things that they think will work Grin

To bring the spin down, the easiest way is to lower the loft. Hitting 3-4* loft. Or change the way you hit the ball. Harder though Cheesy

See you next year!

Gymtraining is easy.. Heavy bench presses and squats + complementary training for back, arms and shoulders!

I kill weights 6 times per week like a proper meathead during the winter but I am still a MUSTIKKA  Grin  Oh, and I throw in the odd knee surgery now and then. Surgery #11 this winter - YAY!

As Andreas wrote; seek advice from KH and Hallenby concerning gym/mobility and so on. I am sure they will read this and reply to you via PM or something. Concerning swing specifics I think you can get plenty of hints on this forum either by searching or asking but Ukranien's post below pretty much sums it up for you.

As far as lowering your spin rate is concerned - simple , if you are a little steep or across the line you will generate more back spin - so you need to get your angle of attack much shallower and your swing path in to out to hit a roight to left shape which will always produce less lanch spn - combine thise things with 140mph plus and you are good to go - if you want to know how to have a better angle of attack  - thats how i make a living ,  and i dont give that //XXX// away for free Grin Grin - good luck mate

How I´m trianing in the gym for LD:

Work out with Olympic Lifting (OL) 1 Repetition Maximum (1RM) (When your technique is good enough for 1RM) = Explosivity
Do strength training to be stronger for the OL.
Do running, rowing long distance to increase your condition so you can train more and regain faster after every workout.
Stretch and do trainint for more mobility to be more flexible.

Of course, hit much balls with good technique (Ask Mr. Edblad) and swing your club fast to get a higher swing speed every day (Ask CJ).

See you next summer! =)

Thanks for the tips, been lifting those heavy weights now for a while. Have seen some results Wink

Got a hold of a blue SSR today. Hit it constantly 140-145 mph chs. Don't know how accurate it was, but at least I was 25 mph above other hitters  Grin

Swing is still "under construction", keeps getting better though...
