Hi everyone I am very excited to enter in this great sport of long driving and I am looking for any advice people can give as far as technique or competitions or training or buying clubs.  I look forward to getting longer and competition as watching last year western qualifiers it looked like alot of fun.  Thanks in advance.

fisrt and foremost..get your swingspeed up to 140 plus or you dont stand a chance against the long ball hitters. i am a low ball hitter but got my ass kicked in mesquite, because i do not know how to tee it up as high as those guys do but will try to figure that out this year. Last year was a fluke for me, Slyvan Lake had a wind in our face on finals so i had a slight advantage, but now ind, i was toast..lol..but it is fun to watch those guys hit...so if you cant hit 140 plus and control it..you dont stand a chance...Mesquite was a great trip.enjoyed the show and competition....

If your goal is to be world champion you need to do all 5 (from the poll). If your intrested in LD and want to see where it goes get a cheap club and find a competition. Best way to learn is to go compete and learn from everyone you can, you'll find almost all LD'rs will be very helpful to a new competitor.  (Also a good chance to try out and buy used clubs from more established gus who have a bag full of drivers.)      Good luck.

And Lloyd    you were a lot better than a fluke last yr.   Smiley

You don't necessarily need to swing 140+ CHS because ball speed, spin and launch angle are more important.  Work on hitting the ball well and speed will come with repetition/practice.  There are a few of the top LD competitors that swing in the 130's and you continue to see their names on the leaderboards because they hit the ball consistantly well.  JMO

Get out to a few locals and see what you have against some of the others around you.  When starting out buy a few used clubs to see what you like and get fitted for your equipment from a club builder that is familiar with LD.  Try not to get all caught up in the numbers.

Cheers

just a quick note, if you are already hitting 300 plus yards, thats good. i was hitting 340 plus, then got a 50 inch driver and i tell you that took some getting used to, but i did it and was one of the top 144 hitters that went to Mesquite. it was a great trip...but the thing i did wrong was changed everything from what i did in Sylvan lake to what everyone was doing in Mesquite. I just started hitting a 50 inch driver last year, so it does take some learning on usage, and there are alot of longball hitters that will give you advice if you need it. Vince curlinni and others gave me a few tips, and for that i am grateful as I went to the Remax world longdrive as a contestant, not a fan..but will go as a fan anyday.. the speed and tempo of evrything is great. they have a great set-up in mesquite. if you have a chance to go to a local qualifier, go it is worth it...i know i will try out if i can find one close by, but will see and good luck.....
