Hi Guys,
just got back from India. Was gone for 7 weeks thats why I could not get to any Regionals. Will be in Dallas for the Regionals and looking forward to seeing all of you. Just a little update.
It took a couple of years but I have set up a LD event and a company to promote LD in India ( Maxx Power Golf). The response so far has been terrific. There are not a lot of Driving ranges in India and the ones that are there are not very long. So I did tie up with The Chandigarh Golf Club ( A very exclusive club in the region ) to be the host club for the LD event in the last week of Nov. and for the next 5 years at least.
Golf is getting huge in India and we will be the First International LD event in India. I have put together a great team there and we have had great support from the Corporates in the region.
Something you might find interesting, there are only 2 Pro divisions ( Open & Womens) and 9 Am. divisions , starting at age 8 and going up to 70 + . There is such an influx of young golfers in the country that to truly promote the sport that I had to put in 3 Jr. divisions . Most of the Open Pro. competitors are going to be from the Indian Tour for now. But I am hoping in the next 3-5 years to build a base of LDers.
Most of you are a lot more experienced in LD so any suggestions or comments will be welcome.

Austin,
I am interested in coming if you can find some sponsors for my expenses. I would love to help the LD in India.

Bobby
Would love to have you there. But I heard you have some expensive expenses. Just kidding. Maybe in a few years. You seem to keep getting better with time.
Plus Pat said he wants to go first.

There was a very interesting news today at a press conference on some other tournament at Chandigarh Golf Club, India....Chandigarh Golf Club has requested Maxx Power Golf to hold the Indian Long Drive northern India regional round next year in 2011 at the Highest Golf Club in the world right in the Himalayas at Leh....they said they would work like to make history by holding the Long Drive Event in Leh
Leh has a mountain dominated landscape perched at a height of 11483 ft above sea level. Leh district is the capital town of the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir and would liketo invite all the world LD's.......Maxx Power Golf's Rusty Gill has yet to comment on it when he gets the news.....so i hope this would be an interesting news for all the LDA's....to see Leh and India if all the modalities can be worked out by next May....

11,483 feet ?!?!? I'm 47. I'm not in bad shape at all... but if I swing all day at that altitude, I promise you... I will die.

I just read the links you posted and one of them has spelling errors and the capitalization of some of the titles, etc. are wrong. And they don't list the year this is to be held...I only say that because November of this year or next year? Why would a newpaper list an event to be held in 2011 not list the year? Or if this year, 2010, that means it essentially right after the World's. Seems like a weird time to hold an event if you wanted to get World Class LDers to attend!
Whatever.....I just find it interesting that a English news column would have so many grammer mistakes
and a few mispellings?
But, good luck anyway!

Was up in Maine donating my time and services for Maine Special Olympics Charity Golf and trying to promote LD in the area. Great time.
On the 'Leh' issue ; This summer there was a terrible cloud burst ( hard rain) and just in a few hours started mud slides that resulted in the loss of life of about 400 people along with the property damage. There is not much vegetation up there anyway. The poverty level is high and this created even more hardship for a lot of the families.
So what I was working on was doing a fund raiser as an LD event through some of the corporates in India next summer (2011, ; Steve
) but I guess someone leaked it out.
Tom, I think it might be too much for you and we don't want you to die, so just send your lovely assistant.
Most area around Leh is a restricted area ( military , border with China and Pakistan) and foreigners are ' restricted'.
So guess who is going to have the world record for the longest ball. I found a T box at about 13000 ' with a 7000 foot drop and if I use the' Hammer' I will have my name some where. Oh ! I have 6 friends ( had to pay some people) to verify this.
Steve English is a second language for most people and the pay scales are pretty bad so it does not attract the best and they are usually in a rush. Also some words are spelled different in the British english and that what is taught there. Someone should still have edited that.
As far as Timing and World class LDers, for the next few years I am trying to build the LD base for the Indian and Asia talent and the economics of going there to compete does not currently work out. Hopefully in 2-3 years.
.
The LD event is moving along great. I have a commitment from Hero Honda , Cleveland and a few others so far.
Thanks again and suggestions are still welcome.
Rusty
Oh if you guys go to 'Leh India' on a search engine there are some great photographs
