Got this from the LDA website:

Michael Sykes is a long time competitor here in the States and has been working abroad the last couple of years. His event and contact information will be available next week. Look for it to be a big event.

Got some more information on Michael Sykes' event:

Portuguese National Long Drive Championship
Algarve, Portugal        Setpember 25, 2010

The Senior division will be first with the Open Championship to follow. One day both divisions with seeding by draw. Both Champions will earn a exemption to the RWDLC. In addition there will approximately 10,000.00 Euros in prize money that will pay through the top three in both divisions.

For more information about the event contact Michael Sykes.

Sounds a good event, from an email I got, you can get either party on in Portugal after the event or get a flight back to Manchester to play the Wii? Wink

Good call Stinger!  I'm looking into booking flights myself, it would be great to know if there will be an event at the other end.

Thank you, John Smiley

I can't see this event happening. After initially sending me the flyer for the event, the guy running it has repeatedly ignored emails from me requesting an entry form and a breakdown of prize monies. Then about 3 weeks ago i get an email to say that he was away on holiday but had left his laptop at home but he'd email me the details when he got back (end of August). I've heard nothing since. The closing date for entries on the flyer has now well past. My gut feeling is that this event is not going to happen, probably because he realises that he isn't going to get anywhere near the 30 Senior and 70 Open division competitors he was expecting.

From the organiser:

The Portugal National Long Drive has been canceled for 2010. We regret this as events have unfolded that will not allow us to conduct the event as planned.  The Event will take place next year 2011 at the end of September.

We are working with all the sponsors to bring together one of the top events in Europe for 2011 under all the right circumstances. One change will be to have a two day competition and not a one day shoot out with the winners in the Open and Senior Division  going directly to the World Championship.

This is very unfortunate for all of us here in Europe but we look forward to a outstanding event next year.  We wish all the European hitters best of luck at the World Championships and We will be advising all in plenty of time for 2011 Event.
